How Many People Fit in a Black Cab?

A London black cab seats up to six passengers, but each cab tour sets its own group cap, from two to six. What a full cab feels like, wheelchairs, children, and larger groups.

Updated October 2026

The current London black cab, the electric LEVC TX, has room for up to six passengers, and that is the ceiling for any cab tour. Each tour then sets its own cap: on GetYourGuide most London taxi tours are sold “per group up to 6”, a few cap the group at five, and one music tour at two. The price is for the whole cab, so a full cab is the cheapest way to ride, per head.

The seats in a black cab

The passenger compartment of a London cab is behind a partition, with a bench seat facing forward and fold-down seats facing it. LEVC, which builds the TX, describes “flexible space for up to six passengers”, with an integrated wheelchair ramp and a swivel seat. The driver sits up front alone, so on a tour the driver-guide talks to you through the partition and stops at the sights so you can step out.

Six adults is a full cab. It works for a tour because you get out at most stops, but on a long day four or five adults is more comfortable, and the tour price does not change.

Group caps on the tours

On a phone, swipe the table sideways for the price each in a full cab.

The cap is in the price line of each listing (“per group up to 5”), and it is the number of people the price covers, not a minimum. Two people pay the same as five.

Children and car seats

Children count towards the group cap like adults. UK rules are looser in a licensed taxi than in a private car: if the driver does not provide the right child seat, a child can travel without one, but only on a rear seat, with children aged three and over using the adult seat belt (gov.uk, “Child car seats: the law”). On a planned tour the safer course is to bring a seat or ask for one: message the operator through GetYourGuide after booking.

Iconic London Taxi Tours notes that its electric cab on the Iconic London Taxi Tour carries a hearing induction loop and a microphone so the guide can talk to the back seats, and that a wheelchair user may reduce the number of other passengers.

Wheelchair users

Every taxi licensed in London is wheelchair accessible, as TfL’s licensing rules for the vehicles require, and the TX carries a built-in ramp and a swivel seat. A wheelchair user rides in the cab in their chair, facing forward. What varies is the tour: some stops involve steps or cobbles. Check the listing’s accessibility line, and ask the operator about the stops before you book.

A group bigger than one cab

For seven or more people, book two cabs on the same tour and time, or pick a tour whose listing offers a second vehicle. The two cabs drive in convoy and meet at the stops. A large group may find a walking tour or a coach tour cheaper per person; the cab or bus comparison sets out the trade.

Where to go next

The black cab tour prices guide divides each tour’s price by its group cap, so you can see the cost per person for your group.
