How a London Taxi Tour Works
Book the cab, not the seats: one price covers your group, and the driver-guide comes to you.
Book the Cab, Not the Seats
The price is for the whole cab and up to six people, so two pay the same as six. Pick a date and a start time; this tour can be reserved now and paid later, and cancelled free up to 24 hours before.
Get Collected
Your driver-guide picks you up at your hotel or any central London address. Say what you most want to see: the listing calls the route totally bespoke, in any order you like.
Step Out at the Landmarks
The cab stops at the sights for photos: Big Ben and Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul's and Tower Bridge. Photos are taken for you at the best spots, so the whole group is in them.
Back to Your Door
After 3 to 4 hours you are dropped back in central London, or wherever you head next. A tip for a good guide is customary and never included.

The Guide
Which London Taxi Tour to Book, and What You Get
A black cab tour is a private car, a driver who knows every street and a guide in one. Here is how the tours differ, and what they cost per head.
A London taxi tour is a private sightseeing tour in a licensed black cab: one price for the whole cab, a driver-guide who collects you in central London, and stops at the landmarks for photos. The one most people book on GetYourGuide is London Sightseeing Taxi Tours’ Sightseeing Black Cab Tour with Hotel Pickup: 3 to 4 hours on a route you can change, from US$426 for a cab of up to six (checked October 2026). That is about US$71 each when six share it. It is rated 5.0 out of 5 from 320 reviews, the most of any London cab tour on GetYourGuide.

The listing calls the route “totally bespoke”: the standard loop takes in Big Ben and Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul’s, the Tower and Tower Bridge, and you can reorder it or swap stops. Each of its eight most recent reviews names the guide, for the stories and for the photos taken at each stop. One wrote that the driver “knew all the back routes so we didn’t waste time”.
Which cab tour suits you
Most cab tours follow one of four ideas: the classic landmarks, a film or music theme, the city after dark, or a day out of London. The theme changes the stops; the format stays the same, with a private cab, hotel pickup in central London and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

What a cab tour costs, per cab and per head
Every tour below is priced for the whole cab, not per person. Divide by your group and a cab tour looks very different: the last column is what each person pays when the cab is full.
| Cab tour | Time | Cab price (October 2026) | Each, full cab |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black cab night tour | 2 to 3 hours | US$332, up to 6 | US$55 |
| Iconic London Taxi Tour (electric cab) | 3 to 8 hours | US$374, up to 6 | US$62 |
| Sightseeing Black Cab Tour | 3 to 4 hours | US$426, up to 6 | US$71 |
| Private London Big Sights Taxi Tour | 3 to 4 hours | US$453, up to 6 | US$75 |
| Rock N Roll Beatles cab tour | 3 to 4 hours | US$426, up to 6 | US$71 |
| Harry Potter film locations tour | 4 hours | US$669, up to 6 | US$111 |
| London full-day tour by black cab | 8 hours | US$937, up to 6 | US$156 |
| Windsor Castle and Hampton Court by black taxi | 8 hours | US$1,178, up to 6 | US$196 |
Entry tickets are extra on every tour, and so is a tip. The prices guide has every tour and the cost for two and four people, and how many people fit in a black cab explains the group caps.

Who drives you
The cab is a licensed London taxi, and the driver is the guide. Several listings spell out what that means. London City Taxi Tours says the driver-guides on its Big Sights tour are working cabbies who passed the Knowledge and are also qualified tour guides. SEE MORE TAXI TOURS lists a licensed London taxi driver who is also a Blue Badge, City of London or City of Westminster registered guide on tours such as its full day by black cab. The Knowledge explains the three to four years of study behind the badge.
The newer cabs are electric. Iconic London Taxi Tours runs the Iconic London Taxi Tour in an electric cab with a panoramic roof, a hearing induction loop and a microphone so the guide can talk to the back seats. It is rated 5.0 from 69 reviews, and its time runs from 3 to 8 hours, so it is the one to pick for a longer day.
Before you book
- Oxford Street is off the route. From 26 October 2026 the stretch between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street is closed to traffic, taxis included. Tours that list Oxford Street now see it from a cross street or on foot.
- Pickup is in central London. Your hotel or any central address; further out can cost extra, and two Beatles tours start at a meeting point instead.
- Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before on every cab tour here.
- Wheelchairs. Every licensed London taxi is wheelchair accessible, and most of the tours here are listed as wheelchair accessible; check the listing for the stops on foot. A wheelchair can reduce the number of other passengers.
- Tipping is customary for a good guide and never included; tipping on a taxi tour has the details.
If you would rather see London from the water for part of the day, london-boat-tour.com covers the Thames speedboats, the Regent’s Canal boats and the river trips to Kew and Hampton Court. London Taxi Tour FAQ
The questions people ask before booking a black cab tour, answered in the first sentence.
The most reviewed is London Sightseeing Taxi Tours' Sightseeing Black Cab Tour with Hotel Pickup, rated 5.0 from 320 reviews: 3 to 4 hours with hotel pickup, from US$426 for a cab of up to six (October 2026). For a theme, the Harry Potter film locations tour (4.8, 76 reviews) and the Rock N Roll Beatles cab tour (5.0, 79 reviews) are the best reviewed. The comparison table compares them.
From about US$330 to US$540 for the cab for a 2 to 4 hour tour, US$669 for a 4-hour themed tour and US$937 to US$1,258 for a full day, as listed on GetYourGuide in October 2026. Every price covers the whole cab and up to six people, so a full cab of the sightseeing tour works out at about US$71 each. The cheapest, the SMB night tour at US$201, comes with a driver but no commentary. The prices guide divides every tour by its group size.
Yes for a group of three to six, a first visit, little time or limited mobility: you get a private driver-guide, a door-to-door pickup and the landmarks in an afternoon. For one or two people on a budget a bus pass is cheaper per head. Reviewers of the sightseeing cab tour praise guides by name for the stories, the photos and the back routes. Is a black cab tour worth it? weighs it up.
Up to six passengers in the current electric LEVC TX, and most cab tours here are priced for the whole cab with a cap of six; a few cap the group at five, and one music tour at two. The electric Iconic London Taxi Tour says a wheelchair user may reduce the number of passengers. For seven or more, book two cabs. How many people fit in a black cab covers seats, children and wheelchairs.
For an ordinary ride, what the meter says: Transport for London sets the tariffs, and the minimum fare has been £4.40 since 25 April 2026. A cab tour is different: a fixed price for the cab and the hours, paid in advance, such as US$426 for the 3 to 4 hour sightseeing tour. No meter runs on a booked tour.
It is optional: most people round up to the next pound, and Visit London gives 10 to 15 per cent for black cabs. On a cab tour a tip for a good driver-guide is customary, and listings such as the Harry Potter tour list gratuities as not included. Tipping on a taxi tour has the details.
No: since 31 October 2016 every licensed London taxi has had to accept card and contactless payments, with no surcharge for paying by card. A booked cab tour is paid in advance on GetYourGuide anyway, so only a tip changes hands on the day, in cash or by card.
Most do: the sightseeing tour and the themed tours on this site collect you from a hotel or address in central London and drop you back. Two Beatles tours start at a meeting point instead: the Private Beatles Taxi Tour and the Beatles Tour by Black Taxi. Pickup outside central London can cost extra.
On these tours the cab is a licensed London taxi, and several listings say their driver-guides have passed the Knowledge, the test every cabbie takes. London City Taxi Tours (Big Sights Taxi Tour) describes working cabbies who are also qualified tour guides, and the Christmas lights cab tour says its driver is both a licensed London taxi driver and a registered tourist guide. The Knowledge explains the test.
Yes: the most reviewed is the 2.5-hour Christmas Lights Tour in a Black Cab, rated 5.0 from 27 reviews, from US$481 for a cab of up to six (October 2026). In 2026 the main displays switch on between 4 and 12 November, according to Londonist, and Oxford Street between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street is closed to traffic from 26 October, taxis included. The Christmas lights page compares the options.
Yes: the Private Black Cab Night Tour runs 2 to 3 hours after dark with a live guide, rated 5.0 from 23 reviews, from US$332 for the cab. The SMB night tour costs less, from US$201, but its listing excludes commentary on the landmarks: you get a driver, not a guide.
Yes: the 4-hour Harry Potter film locations tour, rated 4.8 from 76 reviews, from US$669 for a cab of up to six, with hotel pickup. No cab tour visits the Warner Bros. Studio, which is outside London; the full-day Ultimate Harry Potter tour says so in its listing. The Harry Potter page compares them.
